Faster grids, Magic Link Authentication: RMS 143

The Bipsync Research Management System is now on release 143. In this release we’ve optimized our grid component and made authentication in our mobile apps much smoother, along with few other general improvements and bug fixes.

Faster Grids

Bipsync’s grid widgets allow any number of objects (companies, contacts or any custom fund objects) to be listed, filtered and displayed within a flexible and customizable dashboard interface. Often then, they need to manage a lot of data. In a typical allocator client scenario, for example, they’re often asked to display thousands of rows of fund or contact records. We’ve taken time in this release to optimize how Bipsync loads and renders its grids, to ensure they’re always snappy and responsive.

“Magic” Link Authentication

The on-boarding phase is probably the most crucial when it comes to user adoption of a product.

We’ve always invested heavily in Bipsync’s on-boarding process. Features like single-sign-on and guided tutorials have been instrumental in us achieving some of the highest user engagement and adoption rates in the industry, and in this release we’re introducing another such feature.

“Magic” link authentication (sadly there’s really not much magic about it) involves providing an already authenticated user with a hyperlink with allows them to instantly authenticate themselves with other applications. This is a useful technique for platforms such as ours that have several web, mobile and desktop applications; it’s a tiresome experience for the user to sign in to each one.

Link authentication works by generating a URL containing an expiring token and providing it to the authenticated user via a secure method, such as by email or text message. By clicking or tapping the link the user is instantly authenticated with a given application, speeding up the on-boarding process considerably. Once a URL has been used to sign in once, it cannot be used again.

Bipsync now supports link authentication, and we think it’ll quickly become a significant part of our established on-boarding process.
